FAQs
Why preserve your older analog memories?
Your memories are priceless, and irreplaceable. Your family probably has THOUSANDS of home movies and photos in multiple formats. The benefit of preserving your memories is twofold: first, by keeping a copy of your family videos and photos on DVD or Blu-ray and in the cloud, you preserve these memories forever. Second, modern technologies allow you to enjoy your digital videos and photos in many more ways than traditional analog home movies and photos. With your memories in a modern digital format, you will be able to effortlessly organize, label, and share your memories library. In addition, you can easily create personalized memories gifts -- like video montages and photo books - for special occasions.

What is the best way to preserve my older analog memories?
The only practical or affordable way to preserve older analog home movies and photos is to convert them to a modern digital format. Once "digitized," your analog memories can be stored in a variety of affordable digital storage media: DVD, Blu-ray, thumb drive or portable USB hard drive. With iMemories Cloud, iMemories will safeguard your memories in the cloud, allowing you anytime, anywhere viewing and sharing of your memories on iPhone, iPad, Android phone and tablet, PC and Mac and select Smart TVs.

Why is iMemories my best option for digitizing my movie films, videotapes, photos, slides and negatives?

We also do all our work in-house to ensure the highest quality control. With nearly a decade of experience digitizing older analog home movies and photos, we breathe new life into your memories, providing enjoyment for generations.

How much does it cost to digitize older analog memories?
Our pricing is simple and very affordable: $12.99 per videotape, $12.99 per 50 ft. movie film, and $.49 per photo, slide or negative.

Click here to see all of our prices.

How do I tell how many feet of movie film are on a reel?
Most home movie film reels have markings on the side of the (metal) reel that indicate the length. You will traditionally see 200 feet, 300 feet, or 400 feet for 8mm or Super 8. Traditionally, the smallest reels (plastic), the ones that measure 3 inches in diameter, are 50-foot reels.

The length and run time of 8mm film and Super 8 film are as follows:

    3 inch reel (50 feet) 2-3 minutes
    4 inch reel (100 feet) 5-6 minutes
    5 inch reel (200 feet) 12-14 minutes
    6 inch reel (300 feet) 19-22 minutes
    7 inch reel (400 feet) 26-29 minutes

16mm film running time will be approximately half of 8mm film or Super8 film.

What if I have photo prints AND 35mm negatives, which ones should I digitize? Are negative scans cheaper and better quality than scans from photo prints?
If you have negatives for most of your photo collection, scanning negatives is a better option because:

Image scans from negatives are higher quality than photo prints
Negatives are cheaper to ship (negatives weigh 1/10th of photo prints, and require a smaller package to ship)
Negatives are in a sequence and are easier to organize

My photos are in albums. Can I ship my albums to iMemories as is? Or do I have to remove my photos from the albums?

What is the best way to handle and care for DVDs or Blu-rays?
While DVDs and Blu-rays are durable and long-lasting by nature, proper handling and storage will maximize their longevity:

Store them away from extreme heat, humid or cold temperatures.
Keep them in their cases when not in use. This minimizes dust and scratches.
Only touch them on the edges.

Is there a limit to how many videotapes, movie films and photos I can send in?
No, there is no limit. We can handle any size order. It's not uncommon for iMemories to receive orders with over 100 videotapes and movie films, and over 10,000 photos.

How can I adjust the speed of my Video Montage?
You can choose the speed at which images appear in your video. This is really useful for getting the feeling of your video right, and also for getting more images for a given song.

Choose "Video Options". To change the pace of your video, move the pacing slider to the right or left. Do you have videos and photos that just won't fit into your current song? If the video is full, move the pacing slider to the right.

Tip: All Video Montage visuals are designed to intelligently respond to the genre, structure, rhythm, and energy of your music. By choosing a slower song, the Video Montage will have a more mellow tune, and your images will appear at a slower pace.
