If you have experience working with digital video, and, you have the equipment and software, the answer is yes. But, the process is not straightforward and simple for non-tech savvy people. Said simply, a DVD is designed to be watched, and not edited. To edit the video footage stored onto a DVD, the DVD footage must be digitally transcoded back to an editable digital video format (often referred to as an AVI or DV file). From there, the AVI file (Microsoft Windows) or DV file (Apple Macintosh) can then be imported into a video editing software program, and edited from there. Once fully edited, the AVI or DV file must then be re-transcoded back to MPEG-2 format and published to a DVD.
Because of the complexity and time-consuming nature of this process, iMemories makes it easy for our customers. With an iMemories Online membership, iMemories customers can edit their home videos online before they are custom published to DVD. That is the fastest, easiest, and most convenient way to customize your home movie collection.
In addition, if at any point a customer wants to edit their home videos at home, they can order their entire collection of home movie footage to be sent to them in either AVI or DV format (ready for editing) via external hard drive (additional fees apply).
The customer can simply plug in the external hard drive to their home computer and import the footage into their preferred video editing software program.
